USER- FRIENDLY FACILITIES
Here are a few questions which should be asked when planning the construction of new church facilities. These are adapted from a longer list proposed by Lyle Schaller: What image do you wish to convey to newcomers by the type of building design (worship, educational, etc.)? How will it be identified as a place of congregational worship and meeting? How will outdoor religious symbols and signs be displayed and will they be readily seen by passers-by? Is the entrance of the parking easy and safe to identify and use. Is the parking area designed for optimum traffic flow even at peak capacity? Is the main entrance readily identifiable and available for use for all ages and impairments? Is this main entrance really the main entrance or is it an “unfriendly” entrance which is used mostly by those (visitors) who do not know better? Are exterior and interior directional signs or color-codes lines strategically placed in places that will allow first-time…
