TOO MUCH AND TOO LITTLE
A caring couple took a group of impoverished tenement kids on a two-day trip to the country far from the city. For most of them, it was the first time they had seen a cow give milk or seen strawberries growing in the field. To complete the outing, the couple took the wide-eyed teens to a family style restaurant where food was served on platters. Each boy was allowed to eat all he wanted of chicken, beef, pork sausage, many vegetables and many desserts. One boy could not eat. The more food he saw, the sadder he became. With tears in his eyes finally he had to leave the feast. The man followed him outside with concern. “Are you ill?” he asked. “I’ve never seen so much food,” the poor boy said tearfully. “I cant’ swallow any of it while my brothers and sisters and mother have nothing.” He actually was physically ill with compassion for his family.
