In Psalm 56, the ancient Psalmist sings a song of trust:
This I know, that God is for me.
In God, whose Word I praise,
In the Lord, whose Word I praise,
In God I trust without a fear.
What can man do to me? (Ps. 56:10-11).
“Have faith in God,” Jesus said to His disciples (Mk. 11:22).
Again and again, Sacred Scripture emphasizes that our fulfillment as human persons depends absolutely on our trust in God. Moreover the New Testament writers place great emphasis on why God is trustworthy — on what kind of God He is.
Throughout the ages, men and women have been busy trying to supply their own answer to that question.
