THE CASE OF THE CROOKED HANDS
One Christmas Eve, five-year-old Hadley was visiting his grandparents and was getting very anxious about opening the gifts. Every few minutes he would ask, “Can we open them now?” Finally, Grandma told him that when the hands on the clock were straight up and down, at 6:00 p.m., it would be time to open the presents. When six o’clock rolled around, Hadley ran to tell everyone that it was time. Grandma tried to assure him by saying, “We’re almost ready.” A few minutes later, at 6:04 p.m., Hadley was back. This time he really sounded worried. “Grandma,” he said, “the hands are getting crooked again.” Needless to say, everyone went and immediately began opening gifts.
