WORTH THE WALK
On December 24th, 1982, within a few hours over 24 inches of snow fell in the city of Denver, Colorado. I had chosen to go to work some 13 miles distant, earlier that morning, underestimating the scope of the incoming storm. By 2 p.m. it was clear this was a serious storm and I chose to leave the shop. I was only able to move my car a few feet in the drifts so I set out afoot to ride the bus. Three blocks away I was told the last bus had just passed for the day so I once again began walking. In such adverse conditions several people offered rides and I found myself 6 miles from home by 5 p.m. I called to let my wife know I was on my way.
