An elderly woman, who had just traded in her compact car for a larger model, drove her long, shiny, new beauty downtown to go shopping. The only parking space she could find was a parallel one. It appeared to be no longer than the length of the car. The self-assured woman began her attempt to accomplish the seemingly impossible. As she cut the wheel sharply, she noticed two policemen staring at her intently. Unruffled, she shifted into reverse gear and even to her own amazement, parked the car perfectly on the first effort. Contentedly, she got out of the car, walked to the parking meter. Standing next to it was one of the policemen. Much to her surprise, he inserted a coin in it. Then, as he walked away, he responded to her bewilderment with just two words: “I lost.” In her best self-satisfied tone, she called after him, “Blest are they who have not seen and have believed.”
