TIMING FOR TRUTH
One of my favorite Momma cartoons (by Mel Lazarus) shows Momma sitting on the couch with her old geezer friend Mr. K. who comes to court her. Depressed, he pours out his heart to her: “Mrs. Hobbs, I am at a low ebb, psychologically. My ego is flattened.” Momma tries to cheer him up by saying “Mr. K. let me hasten to state that you’re a fine, interesting and attractive man.” He perks up his ears at this and says, “Oh, Mrs. Hobbs, is that the trut?. And she comes back with “No, there’ll be plenty of time for the truth when you’re emotionally stronger.”
