WIVES, ACCOUNTANTS, BANKERS
Where do small-business owners go for advice? Do they consult their bankers, professional organizations, other businessmen? Nope, they turn to their wives. In a survey of companies with under $300,000 in sales, 6 of 10 owners cited spouses as important information sources for crucial business decisions. Accountants came in second, bankers third. The survey was conducted for the Comprehensive Accounting Corporation of Aurora, Illinois. “The small-business owner probably relies on his spouse partly because she’s right there in the business with him, and partly because the indebtedness incurred is shared by both of them,” says the firm’s Colette Hessenauer.
