WHO’S IN SCHOOL?
The following incident occurred on Monday morning following Ronald Reagan’s announcement of his candidacy for his second term. While seated in a local restaurant, waiting for a colleague of mine to come in, I had the good fortune of overhearing three waitresses on their coffee break, and they were discussing Reagan’s announcement of his candidacy. At one point, a comment was made about Reagan’s interest in “bringing religion back into the school.” It might be noted that this comment was already a misunderstanding of the original statement which was: “bring God back into our schools.” Anyway, one of the other waitresses responded: “I never knew they took religion out of the schools — they still say the Pledge of Allegiance, don’t they?”
