One afternoon, as the story goes, while Bill Jones was out taking a walk as a part of his therapy in recovering from a massive heart attack, the telephone rang and his wife, Edith, answered it. The call was from The Reader’s Digest Sweepstakes in New York. They were calling to inform the Jones Family that Bill had just won $500,000 and that a courier would be arriving in a few days with the certified check.
