OUR INHERITANCE I
‘m not sure how excited you get about what I call tortured alliterations in sermons, but here’s a set I used on the inheritance described in I Peter 1:3-4. Our inheritance is Galvanized (imperishable), Germ-Proofed (undefiled), Grecian-Formulated (unfading, admittedly that’s a pretty awful example), and Guaranteed (reserved in heaven). Under fading versus unfading realities, I was reminded of old Fred who loved to play golf but found his eyesight made it hard for him to follow the ball in flight. He came by the clubhouse and was looking for someone to play a round with him and he found another old duffer, Sam, sitting in the clubhouse reading the Wall Street Journal. He asked if he would like to play a round of golf with him but he said his arthritis was so bad that he couldn’t really swing a club without agony. So Fred said, “Well, Sam, how’s your eyesight?” Sam said he had no problem with his eyes so…
