BINDING UP THE BROKEN HEARTED
In a fallen world not all the stories have happy endings. As you well know, as a pastor, there are many tragedies that are tough to live with but yet they must be lived with year after year. I was particularly moved by a lady’s letter to the editors of Discovery magazine, Oct, 1981. Her letter went this way: To the Editors: You won’t find enclosed here a picture of Peter, age 27. He’s our son, and he’s autistic. During some of the past 27 years, I thought of murder, murder and suicide, running away, moving away. I never considered “putting him away.” I have never visited the state institutions, but I have a vivid imagination. I know that a nonverbal child would be in a living hell; therefore I, my mind, and my will turned to all those other grisly alternatives.
