STRENGTH OUT OF HORROR
I used two quotes from the special Time magazine report (Jan 11, 82) on Children of War. It was subtitled “Out of the Horror, Amazing Strength” This report included interveiws with children now growing up in war-torn Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, Cambodia and Viet Nam. Ireland Elizabeth Crawford is just 16, one of ten children. Her mother was senselessly caught in the crossfire. Their family was decimated by an IRA bullet. Her friend Patrick was also killed. Her grandfather was shot. “All three, then, died in different parts of the violence. ‘When we were younger we couldn’t understand it. We didn’t know where to turn or who to blame. We asked the adults, and the adults, they all had different views on’ I kept askin’: Why is all this happenin’ to us? The reporters asked her “Did it shake your belief in God?” “Not in God. In man.” (pages 36,37)
