THE GROWING FAMILY
We hear a great deal these days about family life, and certainly there has been a great number of books on love, marriage, raising kids, solving marital dilemmas, etc. If anything has been analyzed almost to death, it is the family. Yet, it endures in spite of all that attention and criticism. I saved a story from the Reader’s Digest sometime back about the bride who brought her new husband up to meet Granny at the family picnic. The old woman looked the young buck over carefully and then said to him, “Young man, do you desire to have children?” He was a bit startled by her candid approach, but finally came out with, “Well, yes, as a matter of fact, I do.” She looked at him scornfully and then surveyed the very large clan of children gathered around a half a dozen picnic tables and said, “Well, try to control it!”
