There once was a career bureaucrat named George who, on retirement, thought that he would enjoy doing farm work. He found a job as a farmhand and his first assignment was to clear out the bull’s pen. He performed this task quickly and efficiently, and the farmer was greatly pleased. His second assignment was to whitewash the main barn. Again, he did good work and the farmer was greatly pleased. The next day, the farmer was to be away all day and, before leaving, assigned the new farmhand a chore that would keep him busy until dark. He took George to the barn where the potatoes were stored. He told him to divide the potatoes into large, medium and small, and a fourth size to be used as seed potatoes. When the farmer returned that evening, he went to the barn and found George pacing nervously, wringing his hands and almost in tears. “What’s wrong?” asked the farmer.
