EXCELLENCE
We use this broad, generic word to speak of many things. A thing is excellent if it is of high quality, if it stands above the pack and excels, it is above the average. I live in the middle of a high tech world in Silicon Valley that is constantly seeking excellence in technical matters, and regularly succeeds. There are marvelous examples of it around us. I was chatting with Mike Bailey from our church the other day. He is working on a project at Verbatim where they are developing 3 1/2 inch laser disks that have 10,000 tracks on them and from 50 to 70 megabytes- – and they are removable, erasable and re-usable. That’s 70 million bytes of information, or the equivalent of about 11.5 million words, or 116 — 100,000 word novels. That’s what’s going to be available for personal computers within a couple of years. In storage capability for the Personal Computer user — that’s excellence. And it’s done…
