SIMPLE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS
There’s a plastic lighted nativity scene on the front lawn of our church. One very cold yet sunny afternoon I happened to be walking down the sidewalk in front of the scene in time to see two little girls standing by the manger. I noticed that one of the girls didn’t have a coat on. In curiousity I walked over to chat with the girls. As I approached the manger, I asked the little girl without a coat if she wasn’t cold. Overlooking her own condition, she said to me, “The Baby Jesus was cold, so I put my coat on Him. He’s better now.” It didn’t occur to me until later how much the simple, innocent, loving act of that little girl must have pleased Jesus (the one not made of plastic, that is!). What could more beautifully express the simple meaning of Christmas? In that child’s mind the giving of a warm coat to a cold baby seemed…
