For as long as he could remember, a California truck driver named Larry had spent hours at a time sitting on his backyard lawn chair, wishing he could fly. But he never did anything to carry out his wish. But the time came, one bright sunny day, when he transformed wish into reality. He was sitting in the same old lawn chair, but it was hooked up to 45 helium balloons he had bought at a surplus sale. A parachute was strapped to Larry’s back, some peanut butter-and jelly sandwiches were in a paper bag tied to his leg, and some liquid refreshment was taped to the chair. Over his shoulder hung a b-b-gun with which he could pop the balloons when he wanted to come down. It was Larry’s intention to lift off in his chair and hover a few hundred feet over the neighborhood. Instead, when he lifted off, he shot up 11,000 feet, right through the approach corridors to the Los Angeles…
