A pastor was standing in front of his Church, in the rain, waiting for a bus. Next to him stood a woman he hadn’t seen in the neighborhood before. Trying to be friendly, the pastor said to her, “It’s been pouring rain for three days. If this keeps up, we’ll have to build an ark!” “What’s an ark?” the woman asked. To which the pastor replied, “Are you telling me that you haven’t heard about the great flood, and all those animals getting into the ark with Noah?” “To tell you the truth,” said the woman, “I’ve been in town for only two days and I haven’t had time to read a newspaper.”
In today’s Gospel Lesson, Luke tells us that after Jesus was baptized in the Jordan by John the Baptist, and tempted in the desert by Satan, “He returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee. And a report concerning Him went out through all the surrounding country” (Lk. 4:14). Jesus…
