As he passed a woman who was hoisting about a dozen grocery-filled bags into the trunk of her car, he heard her muttering to herself: “I’m not going to make it! I’m not going to make it!” The clergyman put on his best smile and said cheerfully, “You are going to make it! You are going to make it!” The woman’s head jerked out of the open trunk and with an icy stare, she replied. “What do you know fellow? What do you know?” Then she stamped her foot on the pavement and said defiantly, “I’m not going to make it. I’m not going to make it!”
