The great Christian writer, C.S. Lewis, has insisted that our biggest surprise when we come face-to-face with God is that He will not look strange to us …

Given the limits of human imaginings, we’ll not have the faintest idea of how He will look, but when we see Him, we’ll know we’ve always known Him. We’ll realize with a start what part He has played at many an hour in our lives when we thought ourselves alone.

That fleeting sense we’ve often had of Someone friendly nearby will be explained.

That music in our hearts that sings through every moment of happiness, and then grows dim in our memory, will be recovered — for we won’t say to God when we see Him, “Who are You?” We’ll say, “So it was You all the time!”

Most of us are pleased to accept the Biblical assertion that we have been created in the “Image of God.” It goes down easier than many other familiar phrases…
