Word of God,

Two thousand years ago, on the Sunday which we now know as “Passion Sunday” or “Palm Sunday,” a great crowd greeted Jesus as he entered the City of Jerusalem. “They kept shouting,” the Apostle John tells us,

Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!
Blessed is the King of Israel! (Jn. 12:13).

Now imagine a conversation that might have taken place between some of the disciples a few days later, just after the Crucifixion:

“I can’t understand,” one might have said, “why the people carried on as they did last Sunday. Remember how happy they were when we came into the city with Jesus. Remember how they shouted ‘Hosanna’ and how they showered their blessings on Him? How could they have said this, they who wanted to see Him crucified only five days later?”

“Just words,” another disciple might have answered. “Just words! They didn’t mean those ‘Hosannas.’ It’s easy to say things you don’t mean. It’s easy…
