In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus says to His disciples …
“If anyone gives you a cup of water to drink just because you belong to Christ, then I tell you solemnly, he will most certainly not lose his reward” (Mk. 9:41).
Thus, we are being told that those who bear the Name of Christ — the loyal followers of Christ — are those who see the Christ in others. This we learn in the Parable of the Last Judgment in which the King — Christ — says to those who gave food to the hungry and drink to the thirsty, “As you did this to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it to Me” (Mt. 25:40).
