In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus says to His Disciples, “I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already.” (Lk.12:49). Jesus came to light a fire in the hearts of us human beings who move in clouds of ignorance and who go trampling on the feelings of others. Jesus came to light a fire in the hearts of us human beings who spend and waste time as though we have a million years to live on earth. Jesus came to set our hearts ablaze with the fire of the Holy Spirit which purifies our soul of self-centeredness and pride — the root causes of all our hostilities and enmities.
It is clear from the life and teachings of Jesus in the Gospels, as well as from the life of the Christian Community that, from the very beginning, our relationship with God is the most important thing in our lives. And the gift of the Holy Spirit enables…
