I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth
Scripture

John 18:37

There is a little parable in which a man who is window shopping can’t believe his eyes when he sees a sign bearing the name of a store: “THE TRUTH SHOP.” He immediately enters and a polite saleswoman asks him, “What type of truth did you wish to purchase, partial or whole.” “The whole truth,” of course, the man replies. “I want no deceptions or rationalizations or fudging. I want the plain and unadulterated truth.” Whereupon, the salesperson escorts the man to another side of the store. There she points to the price tag. “The price is very high sir,” she says. “I am determined to get the whole truth at any price,” the man says. “What is the cost?” “Your security, sir,” she answers.

In today’s Gospel Lesson, in an attempt to get at the truth Jesus is asked a question intended to hit the very foundation of his security. Pontius Pilate asks Jesus if He considers Himself to be a king. Jesus answers,…
