PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
October 6, 2013
Greeting
We have come together
aspiring to a faith that will
move mountains.
Penitential Prayer
Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have faltered in our faith:
Forgive us Lord, for a faith that was more like a speck of dust than a mustard seed;
Forgive us Lord, for allowing anxiety to cloud our minds with a faithless pall of gloom;
Forgive us Lord, for being too quick to say,
“It can’t be done;”
Forgive us Lord, for our lack of faith in Your promise of ultimate fulfillment in Your Kingdom of love.
Blessing
“You have received Christ Jesus as Lord.
Live in Him,
Root your whole being in Him
Abide in Him,
Trust in Him,
Put all your faith in Him.”
PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
October 13, 2013
Greeting
We gather together this day to give praise and thanks to our Gracious God who cures our anxieties and heals our myriad wounds with the touch of His mighty hand.
Penitential Prayer
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have not been as grateful as the cleansed leper who returned to give thanks for Your miraculous healing.
We confess that in times of stress we forget about You, once the crisis is past. We fail to put our trust in Your miraculous healing power.
Lord forgive us for failing to recognize and appreciate Your wondrous healing touch.
Grant us, we pray, not only the benefit of Your generosity and Your healing, but also the inner miracle of the soul which seeks to express its heartfelt thanks.
Blessing
May the life of Jesus
be your example in all your words and actions.
May the indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit
enable you to close each day with and attitude of genuine peace of soul.
PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
October 20, 2013
Greeting
The Word of the Lord is revealing,
shedding light in the dark corners of our world.
The Word of the Lord is reliable,
true in all that it teaches.
The Word of the Lord is loving,
giving comfort in times of distress.
Come, let us gather to worship our God, for in His Word there is life, and comfort, and hope, and power.
Penitential Prayer
We confess, Lord, that we know better
than we do.
There is a gap between our knowledge and
our action.
We are well informed about Your Will,
but we often choose to ignore it.
We know what the Scripture says, but we fail to put it into practice.
Our spirits are willing, but our flesh is weak.
Forgive us, Lord, for our unwillingness to put principle into practice, and enable us by the power of Your Spirit to better know your will and to do it.
Blessing
May the Lord
walk before you to guide you,
hover over you to protect you,
and live within you to strengthen you.
PRAYERS FOR WORSHIP
October 27, 2013
Greeting
This is what the Lord requires,
that we act justly,
that we love tenderly,
and that we walk humbly in our ministry of service.
Penitential Prayer
Our Father in heaven, we confess that we have often lacked the humility of the tax collector who went into the Temple acknowledging his sinfulness.
We have been quick to excuse our faults and explain away our failures.
We have found it all too easy to be critical of our neighbors, our fellow church members, even our families.
We have refused to correct our deficiencies of attitude and character, simply because we denied their existence.
Lord, be merciful to us, who are self exalting sinners.
Blessing
Exaggerate not your own importance;
instead, judge yourself soberly,
using the standard of faith which
God has given you.
