Atlanta Symphony performer Jane Little passed away in May of this year. An accomplished double bass player, Little was not the nation’s most renowned instrumentalist. She was far from a household name, and she never achieved world-wide recognition from the stage. That is until she passed away on May 15, 2016 at the age of 87 — after collapsing on stage — during an encore performance of Irving Berlin’s composition “There’s No Business Like Show Business!” (Now that’s what I call a “swan song!”). Perhaps even more remarkable is the fact that the diminutive Jane Little (she was just 4″ 11″) performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for over 71 years — and earned a Guinness World Record to prove it.
