Stewardship

A newly married preacher and his wife struggled to make ends meet as they began their new life together. The preacher was frequently called upon to speak at small rural Churches. One Sunday, he and his new wife drove 30 miles to a service. Afterward a Church member met them at the door with an envelope. “We’re sorry we can’t afford to pay you,” he said, “but here is the morning offering.”

On the way home they opened the envelope and found 67 cents. The preacher grumbled, “I hate to be ungrateful, but it seems like a long drive for sixty-seven cents.”

His wife replied, “I know. And I put a quarter in the offering myself.”

“So did I,” replied her husband.
