If it takes a two-hundred-thousand dollar-per-year executive to guide a client, lead an advertising campaign, develop a computer program or help put a corporation back on its feet, then what is the worth of a person who takes your child, guides and develops the campaign to educate her, develop her personality and social skills, put her on her feet and help her to realize her true potential?
If I were a teacher who lived up to that challenge, I would be making a contribution far greater than the broker’s killing in the stock market, the attorney’s brilliant defense, the designer’s latest fashion or the architect’s tallest building. I, the teacher, would be cultivating, encouraging and developing human souls — boys and girls — the finest of God’s creations. No banker or lawyer or corporation chief or doctor should hold his or her head higher than I.
