In 1953, two men, Sir Edmund Hillary, a beekeeper by trade; and also an explorer from New Zealand and his guide, a man named Norgay, who was from Nepal, were the first humans to climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world at 29,000 feet high. And few people know that when they were at the most dangerous part of their climb to the top that Sir Hillary lost his balance and fell over a deep precipice. Norgay saw that it was happening, he sensed it immediately and dug his ice pick into the ice and the rock and just held on thinking that when the rope went taut, he’d be able to catch Sir Hillary.
