TEN COMMANDMENTS MULTIPLIED
Frank and Ernest are standing in front of row after row of shelves of books. On top of one of the shelves is a sign which reads, “Law Library.” Franks turns and says to Ernest: “It’s frightening when you think that we started out with just ten commandments.” It is. We have always tried to interpret God’s law. We have argued over what was work and what was rest. We’ve argued about who our neighbor is. We’ve discussed until we’re blue in the face what constitutes lying and stealing and coveting. We’ve written volumes about each one. Why can’t we just live them?
