SPIRITUAL CHERRIES
A certain minister was visiting in a church member’s home when he was offered a glass of homemade cherry brandy. At first he refused, but at their insistence, he finally drank a glass. It was great! He asked for another and another. At the end of the evening, the church member said, “I see you really like my cherry brandy. I’ll be glad to give you a case of it if you will acknowledge the gift in church publicly.” The minister agreed, and soon the case was delivered. In the church bulletin on Sunday there was this message: “The minister wants to thank Mr. Smith for his gift of cherries and the spirit in which they were delivered.” From the Commentary on Luke, from The Communicator’s Commentary, by Bruce Larson, pp. 257-258
