MAKING HIS OWN OPPORTUNITIES
Victor Kiam told of a time a young man wanted to work for him at Remington. After looking over the applicant’s resume, he told him there was nothing available. But the young man refused to end the interview. He said, “I think there’s an opening for me, but I don’t know where it is yet.” He offered Kiam a plan. He would work for thirty days without compensation, wagering his free labor that he’d find a position for himself at Remington. Within the thirty day period, he pinpointed several problems and outlined viable solutions to remedy them. He got the job.
