GUARDIAN ANGEL I
‘m not sure of the year, but this is a true story from my life growing up on a small “truck-farm” in northern Illinois. My Dad was out cultivating on the “20-acres,” and my mother sent me to call him for lunch. I rode my bicycle out to the field and left it at the end of the rows. I then ran out to catch up with my Dad. Dad was driving an Allis-Chalmers WD-45 with a two-row cultivator. There was a heavy bar, which held the rear gang of cultivators, that ran across the back of the tractor. As I had done many times before, I ran up behind the tractor and jumped up on that bar. I would ride to the end of the field and get off. This time it was different.
