HOW MANY MAGI?
A story is told of a pastor and a scripture scholar who find themselves sitting together on an airplane. The pastor immediately complains to the scholar: “You know, sir, there are some Scripture scholars these days who are saying we don’t know how many Magi there were.” The scholar quickly says, “I am not one of them.” Relieved, the pastor says, “Am I glad to hear that.” But the scholar quickly adds: “That’s right, there were six magi.” “Six?” shouted the surprised pastor. “How do you figure six magi?” “Well,” replied the scripture scholar, “in the reliquary at Cologne there are the heads of three wise men, and in the reliquary at Milan there are the heads of three wise men. Three plus three equal six.”
