Jodie Foster was born and grew up in – – where else? — Los Angeles, a city she approaches, as she does many things: with a sense of humor: ‘If you’ve grown up there, you realize how silly it is, and you love it for that. It’s a fun place. You don’t talk to people, you go to the beach. All my life I figured, if something is bothering you, you did things — you went to the gym, or went driving in your car. But you never sat down and talked to anybody about anything. When I started going to Yale, that was the hardest thing — learning to communicate with people.
