PRESIDENT CLINTON’S VERSE
President Bill Clinton chose Isaiah 58:12 as his theme verse for his second term as President of the United States. His decision was prompted by television evangelistic Robert Schuller. The verse reads as, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” Clinton’s stated purpose is to encourage reconciliation and purpose throughout the nation, beginning with the politics and politicians of Washington D. C. Concerning Clinton’s choice of this Old Testament prophecy, Schuller says, “He thought he grabbed the Bible verse, but I think the Bible verse grabbed him… I said to him in the last few days, ‘I wish you could see yourself with a pastoral heart, not a political heart.’ And by golly, that’s what he’s doing.
