DANBURY BAPTISTS
In October of 1801, the Danbury Baptist Association in Danbury, Connecticut wrote a flattering letter to Thomas Jefferson, the newly elected president of the United States, in which they thanked him for his strong stand for religious liberty and encouraged him to continue in his support of the same, particularly in their defense against the religious persecution they were experiencing from the hand of the Congregationalists in their area. We have excerpted the conclusion of this letter in which the association also took the opportunity to provide their president with a gospel invitation in the form of a wish–for his salvation through Jesus Christ.
