In the “Born Loser,” two fellows meet and one asks the other: “Buy a genuine gold Swiss watch for fifty bucks?” The second guy says, “All I’ve got’s a twenty.” The first replies: “Deal!” As they both walk away with smug, self-satisfied looks on their faces, the first guy is thinking: “Sucker gave me twenty bucks for a phony watch.” And the second is thinking: “Sucker gave me a watch for a counterfeit twenty.” From “The Born Loser,” January 11, 1991
