In the book, Growing Up in America, sociologist Anthony Campolo suggests that one of the primary responsibilities we have for our young people is to challenge them to influence their world by possessing a mystical character of Christianity. This mystical character is produced as they saturate themselves with the Holy Spirit, prayer and devotional meditation. What the typical high school needs is Christian leadership that thinks the thoughts of Christ and radiates his goodness. Campolo tells of his own high school days. There was a Hispanic boy who had spent his earlier years in a convent in Mexico. This boy’s very presence in a group of young men would radically change the behavior of the entire group.
