RUNNING WITH EMILY
Bob Jordan is an amateur athlete. He has competed many times in triathlons. That is a competition where you have to swim, run, and ride a bike over a certain distance all as a single event. Bob had dreamed of entering the Ironman competition which is like the Olympics of triathlons. You have to swim a mile in the ocean, bike 112 miles, and then run a 26 mile marathon. It usually takes over eight hours of constant, total physical effort to complete the course. The king of these Ironman competitions is in Hawaii. Only a certain number are invited to compete. Some people get in by application. Bob had trained for years, enduring grueling hours of running, swimming, and biking hoping to get into the Ironman competition. Bob’s application was not accepted until his 5 1/2 year old daughter Emily wrote his entry letter. She told how she had trained with her dad since she was 3 1/2 months old.…
