DISCIPLESHIP IS EASIER
Mothers have been known to rush into burning houses to rescue their infant children–burning themselves cruelly in the process, but not even feeling the burns in the thrill of saving their loved one(s). The fire was no less hot, the heat no less penetrating–but love can take the heat out of heat and the pain out of burns. Loving Jesus Christ supremely because he first loved me takes the drudgery out of discipleship, the pain out of commitment, and the fear out of following. That’s why discipleship, while costly, is an “easy” yoke and a “light” burden. From Tough Times for Today’s Living, by Stuart Briscoe, published by Word Books, Waco, Texas, 1978, p. 150
