DECAY WITHIN BEAUTY
In the Unexpected Universe, the naturalist Loren Eiseley tells of his chance meeting with a fellow scientist. It was a beautiful day, and Eiseley was enjoying the bright, sunny, windswept day in the open prairie. As he stood in the prairie and enjoyed his surroundings, this fellow scientist, a government entomologist, walked by. The man stopped and talked with Eiseley for a few moments. He proudly displayed a glass bottle that contained a discovery which he was taking to the laboratory for further examination and analysis. This entomologist had discovered a large unnamed parasite in the belly of a rabbit. Eiseley watched the worm as it wriggled, turned and throbbed in the juices and blood of its captivity in search of more flesh to devour. As his fellow scientist continued on his way to the laboratory, Eiseley resumed his observation of the creation around him.
