JUDGING LIKE JESUS DID
As I look at the response of Jesus toward people, I see a “judge” who really hated judgmentalism. But he did not hesitate to judge. But it was almost an implied judgment with a positive response . . . NOT: HEY, WOMAN, WHY ARE YOU COMMITTING ADULTERY? BUT: GO, AND SIN NO MORE! Was there sin on her part? Sure. But the striking thing was that Jesus accepted her and redirected her. There was acceptance, positive judgment, and redirection. One should never judge without the same standard that will be applied to one’s self. Jesus was safe, the rest of us are on shaky ground. Jesus didn’t even tell the woman to remarry, necessarily. He told her to discontinue her sinful activity. He did not tell her to deny the feelings she had, but told her not to act consistently with all of her feelings. Self-denial was still in Jesus’ vocabulary. I think that self-denial is a lost art form.…
