THE HEART OF MINISTRY
I was in my first year of ministry at this church. The treasurer–an elderly senior citizen–was in the hospital recovering from surgery. Her daughter called frantically one Sunday morning in the first twenty minutes of the worship service and requested to talk to me, the pastor. I had someone else step to the pulpit to continue the worship service while I answered the phone. The daughter stated that her mother had gone critical and she feared that she might die and then requested that I come up to the hospital immediately to be with her. Without a moment of hesitation, I told her I would come. I went back before the congregation and told them what was happening. I told them that I was going to the hospital.
