THERE IS MORE BEYOND
In the Sixteenth Century in Spain during the reigns of Charles V and Phillip II, the coins of Spain were stamped with a picture of the pillars of Hercules, which guard the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Under the picture on the coins was stamped these words: “Nothing Beyond” Then the sailor, Columbus, pointed his little fleet of boats toward the sunset, and having left Spain behind him discovered a “new world” Then Spain by necessity revised the motto on her coins to read: “More Beyond.” Before Christ rose from the dead, most people in the face of death could cry nothing other than “Nothing Beyond.” But once the extraordinary events of that first Easter Sunday were completed, that cry had to be changed to, “More Beyond.” From a sermon by Gary Dennis, La Canada Presbyterian Church
