Aging | Care | Family | Generations | Grandmothers | Love | Poetry | Time

BOTH SLEEPING
Faces written in contentment
and both are fast asleep
Two hands touching
Tiny child sprawls haphazardly
upon Grandmother’s lap
Grandfather studies
The aged wisdom, time lined face
knurled fingers resting
on perfection
Those arms which held him once
also held his mother
in tender care
And she who held his children close
holds this little one
in no less love
Past and future brought together
on his grandmother’s lap
A new generation
Time Eternal views for but a moment in disconcerted gaze . . . but smiles By Steve Hodgin March 30, 2000, dedicated to Emma Luckey (Steve’s grandmother and Kaylee’s great-great grandmother), whose heart is greater than five generations, and to granddaughter Kaylee, whose heart shall guide the future
