IMAGE OF GOD
Who we are is an enormously important and, in the long run, thoroughly practical concern. Every effort to help people to live responsible, productive, and joyful lives assumes some position or other on that question. God is an independent person with the capacity to long, think, choose, and feel. A human being is a dependent person with the same four capacities. Our beginning framework for understanding people can now be presented simply. Each of us is: a personal being who longs deeply; a rational being who thinks; a volitional being who chooses; an emotional being who feels. From Understanding People, by Lawrence J. Crabb, Jr., published by Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI, 1987, pp. 86 & 96
