Good morning girls and boys! In your school lessons I know you have learned about our earth, and the moon, and the sun, and all the planets in our solar system. And one of the things that you have learned is that our planet earth is in orbit around the sun — and that we make one complete trip around the sun each year.
Did you know that just a few hundred years ago the idea that the earth revolved around the sun was not accepted in our modern world? Instead, most people said it was the other way around — that the sun revolved around the earth. And the astronomers who said otherwise were criticized and even arrested! They were treated badly because they had a radical new idea about the way the world worked. And their radical ideas turned out to be the truth!
It’s the same way with Jesus in our Lesson today. We read that Jesus was preaching in His hometown and He had some radical new ideas. He was preaching that God’s love was for everyone. And the people in His hometown didn’t want to hear that. So, they forced Jesus out of town, and they even tried to throw him off a cliff!
And today, just as we know the truth about the earth, and the moon, and the planets, and the sun and the other stars, we also know the truth about Jesus. We know that Jesus was sent here on earth to show us how much God loves us — each one of us! That’s the Gospel Truth!

Good morning boys and girls. This morning I’d like to begin with a little “fish story.” One day, two men went ice fishing. They chopped holes in the ice, put worms on their hooks and dropped their lines in the water and, three hours later, they hadn’t caught a thing! They repeated the process two more times with the same result! After a full day of fishing, they hadn’t caught even one fish!
Then a young boy came along who seemed to do the same thing. He cut a hole in the ice, put a worm on his hook, dropped the line in the water and bam! He pulled a big fish out of the water! He did this again, and then again and in just a few minutes he caught more than a dozen fish!
The older fishermen couldn’t believe their eyes so one of them went over to the boy and asked, “What’s your secret? How is it that have you been able to catch so many fish when we haven’t caught a single one?” The boy mumbled something which angered the man, so he said to the boy, “Take the bubble gum out of your mouth. I can’t understand a word you’re saying.” “It’s not bubble gum,” the boy said as he spit something out of his mouth. “You see, that’s the secret. You must keep the worms warm!”
That’s kind of gross, boys and girls keeping worms in your mouth! But I guess it works!
Today we read in our Bible about three fishing partners named Simon Peter, James and John who caught so many fish that their nets almost broke. What was their secret? Jesus was there! Jesus told them to put their nets out in deep water. And even though they had not caught any fish all day they listened to Jesus, and they did what He told them to do.
Boys and girls, it’s no secret. If you follow the instructions that Jesus has given in your Bible, then you will be doing the work that is expected of you. And it’s certainly no secret what the number one thing that is expected of us. It’s simple: “Love one another.”

Good morning girls and boys! There is an old movie that is very popular during the Christmas season called “It’s A Wonderful Life.” Maybe you saw it this Christmas season. In the movie, a man named George Bailey is having some trouble in his banking business and he becomes very sad and angry. He even begins to wonder if things would have been better off if he had never been born. And then along comes an angel to grant him his wish. George Bailey sees what his family and his town and his business would be like without him. And guess what?
Without George Bailey, the town is controlled by a mean and greedy old man. Without George Bailey, his wife lives a sad and lonely life. Without George Bailey, the bank that he used to run doesn’t contribute anything good to the town. Instead, it takes as much as it can from the townspeople. You see boys and girls; the world really was a much better place because George Bailey was in it.
Just like the man in the movie, it is your job as a loyal follower of Jesus to make your corner of the world a better place than it would be without you. That is your job as a loyal follower of Jesus. And you already know how you can make the world a little better — by sharing the greatest gift you can ever give to another — the gift of yourself! And if you do that, you can be sure that you’ll be living “A Wonderful Life,” today, and every day!

Good morning boys and girls! We read in our Bible today that the Apostle Paul has written, “God’s foolishness is greater than man’s wisdom.”
What does St. Paul mean by “God’s foolishness?”
Are there times, even now, when we might think that some of the things Jesus said about God seem foolish to us? Things like . . .
Love your enemies;
Bless those who curse you;
The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
Boys and girls, there may be times in your lives that you may think it is foolish of God to tell you such things. But the wisest thing you can ever do is to finally see “God’s foolishness,” as the wisest thing of all!
