PREVENTING CHILD ABUSE
Education is your child’s best defense against sexual abuse. Teach your child the following: –Physical autonomy. Our bodies are private, and no one has the right to invade that private zone. –Appropriate touches. There are good, appropriate touches and inappropriate touches that feel different. –To trust his or her instincts about a person or situation and to act on those instincts. –Assertive behavior. Every child has a right to say no. There are many ways to say no, so have your child practice saying it in different ways. From A Parent’s Guide to the Danger Zones, by Joy Berry and Kathy McBride, published by Word Books, Waco, Texas, pp. 64 & 66
